It is reasonable up to a certain point to acknowledge the fact that with 200 years of Slavery by foreign invaders be it Mughals, Mongols or British that we somehow tried to be in line with the Global goals and ways of life to feel like a winner or a ruler.
This seems the only viable reason today for us to follow in line with Global Trends one of which is English as Language. Being the Business Language around the world there is no reason we should not learn it and be the best of using this Language but in this way of doing so, since when we started thinking of speaking and writing Hindi as an insult. It seems youth today look at Hindi as a down market thing.
It’s important that we remember India was Global Leader in many disciplines from ancient times and it was deeply rooted in our culture. In the age of Insta and Snapchat we have probably forgotten Hindi.
Hindi is not just a Language, it’s our identity we should nothing be proud about it. It’s not just a Language it’s an era.
The Hindi language is very old and has a direct line of evolution to Sanskrit. As such, it is part of one of the oldest religious and literary traditions in the world – traditions that have influenced other religions and works of art, whether we realize it or not. As such Hindi is incredibly important in the historic development of the World’s Cultures and well worth not just honoring, but studying.
There is Lot that we are missing out in terms of Study Material, Art & Culture because the New Generation is not taking interest in this and we can’t blame them, it is more or less role of parents to tell them to wear it as a pride.
Today, we barely notice the work of Hindi done by some of the great poets and story teller of the world when it is being appreciated by western culture or by a popular figure while they have always been there. Storytellers and Poets like Munshi Prem Chand, Ram Dhaari Singh Dinkar, Mahadevi Verma, Harivansh Rai Bachchan, Jaishankar Prasad, Fanishwar Nath Renu, Dharamvir Bharti and many more…
They have done some amazing piece of work and have been praised around the world. It is important to know other languages but that doesn’t mean that we leave ours. Have you ever seen a Latin speaking English, or a French or a German or Russian? They are proud of their native languages.
I say we have perfected the English Language for the Business, Education and Communicating our Need, Now it’s time to perfect and be Proud of our Own Language.
While writing this, I realised it’s Munshi Ji's (Munshi Premchand) birthday today, at least we can do this much in honour of the legendary story teller that we pledge ourselves not to be ashamed of Hindi.
I guess that will be a start. Working at arihant I am lucky to get chance at some of the best works for Young Minds in Hindi which is directly related to their career, once they reach to a point where they can influence, they will tell others that -
“Hindi hain Hum Watan hai, Hinndostaan Hamara”
You might think and I also thought that I could have written this in Hindi but Hey, it would have been tough to connect.
